Holy Roman Empire - 8,000,000
The Holy Roman Empire is at this time the strongest nation in Europe with lands that stretch from Lombardy to Holland. It counts within its empire, Austria, Switzerland, Bohemia, Holland, Saxony and other such regions. Its military is thus very diverse and very dangerous. It is the largest and most powerful in Europe, no other country in Western Europe can mobolize as large an army.
Military- 3,200,000
100,000-Swiss Guard
The Swiss provide a strong professional military element to the Empire's military. Few troops are as experienced or feared as this legendary soldiers who in peacetime serve as mercenaries to other nations.
200,000-Archers
500,000-Crossbow Men
While Hand Cannons came into Europe by the late 1300 hundreds, Crossbows remained the primary long-range weapon of the Empire for at least 200 more years. With a long range, easy training method, crossbows could punch through most armor and a newly trained militia soldier often had better aim then a newly trained archer. Still, it has a slower rate of fire then a bow.
1,000,000-Knights
Heavy cavalry. The germans had one of the most famous knights in Europe and was the birthplace of the Teutonic Order. Knights can plow down almost any unit, only a large and very disciplined troop of pikeman have any chance of defeating a knight on an open plain.
1,000,000-Hanseatic League Infantry Troops
The Empire is home to the strongest trading alliance in Northern Europe. These cities pour both wealth as well as military in times of need. The Infantry Militia of the citystates are relatively trained troops usually armored lightly while uses a variety of weapons depending on which city they hail from. A diverse but non-the-less effective army.
400,000-Heavy Infantry
The power of the Empire lies in its knights but there were certain merchants and lower class nobles who fought on foot. Armored to the teeth with shields and longsword. They effectively cut opposition to the ground.
