Castles had very small room for Gardens of great splendour. They were not as vast, nor as liberated as the natural countryside yet the still, had that little something about them. In a way they decorated the castle and made it appear more accessible and responsive. They were bordered by pillars of the castle, under-cover but open balconies which were fenced by flowering shrubs of knee height. Then long strips of emerald grass, as soft as silk spread across the small distance of the Garden, until it met the towering tree in the centre.
Various other flowering beauties, herbs and plants littered the garden in such a fine and colour coded way, that it appeared as though the Garden had once been part of Heaven. To the side, a water feature created the music of the garden, allowing it to be filled with a sense of tranquillity and serenity.
Beneath the tree was a damsel. She leant up against the tree with her hands occupied by a book. Her eyes followed every work encrypted into it. For a moment her mind escaped reality and trailed the character’s of story. When the final page came, and the last words were trailed by her eyes, she sank her pretty head bag against the trunk of the tree, and allowed herself to return to reality.
In the story she had become someone other then what she was. Someone in charge of herself. Yet, as she turned back to the real world she found herself in the Castle garden as a Lady-in-waiting whom had been dismissed by her Lady for the time being. Elinor, was one of the preferred Ladies to her Lady, and she earned every bit of solitude that came.
Her eyes trailed to the ground, where once again she was in another world. Thinking of the chores to come, the court she would attend later that evening, the jousting tournament her Lady would require her attend. Being a Lady-in-Waiting was not perhaps the hardest job within the Castle, however it was quite a responsibility and tiring one if that. She could be called on at any hour, but so could many. There was no way Elinor could define her position or how much she could loathe it. However, she accepted the fact that she was perhaps quite a lucky girl. For not many were as favoured as she.
She slowly stood up, deciding that perhaps the Garden was not the best way to spend the remainder of her free time. She may as well take a walk, or seek out company. However, she was very much a person who enjoyed solitude so perhaps the walk sounded a bit more on her side of the world. She brushed her brown tresses of hair behind her ear, before taking up her book, and slowly strolling to the other side of the Garden.
A few servants rushed by, calling for a Knight whom was not known to Elinor. She watched the servants dash after him, but after they disappeared from sight she paid no further heed to them. She slowly began her walk around the small garden enjoying the bliss of the sunlight that escaped through the leaves of the tree to touch her fair skin.
